Hydraulic repairs can be expensive, especially when replacing parts more often than necessary because you have no preventive maintenance plan. When systems are kept running at peak performance, components last longer, which reduces labor costs and lost productivity.

It is estimated that up to 90 percent of premature hydraulic failures can be avoided.

Whether you have one or two machines to maintain or a warehouse full of industrial equipment, R&N can service all of your preventive cylinder needs. Experts in the industry since 1979, we are known for our wide-ranging and professional hydraulic cylinder services.

The frequency will depend on your specific inventory and usage, but regular inspections are key to detecting early warning signs of a major failure.

1 Inspect hose assemblies for the following: fitting slippage; damaged covers or reinforcement exposure; heat-cracked or charred hoses; cracked or corroded fittings; fitting or hose leaks; and, kinks or twists in hoses.

2 Check hard lines and tubing for any signs of wear, cracking, kinking, or leaks, both in the length of the tubing and at connection points.

3 Take note of visible scoring, pitting, or hydraulic fluid accumulation on cylinders or actuators, which could be signs of metal particles in the system.

4 Look over all filters, many of which have visual indicators, for clogs or filters in bypass mode.

5 Inspect the sump tank for any water or moisture by taking a sample from the bottom. Because water in the circuit can seriously damage components, it must be purged regularly.

6 Strong or unpleasant odors could indicate your system is operating at unsafe temperatures. It could also mean fluids are leaking onto hot surfaces or fluid viscosity has been weakened.

If you think you’re on the verge or have already suffered a catastrophic failure, don’t trust your hydraulic repair to just anyone. Our team has 50 years of experience and will perform your repair at our on-site facility in the most cost-efficient and timely manner.
